Q: Is lung fibrosis the same as lung cancer?

No, both conditions are different.  Lung fibrosis is scarring of the lung tissue, while lung cancer is uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells.

Q: Can lung fibrosis transfer from person to person?

No. Lung fibrosis is not contagious, hence it cannot be transfer from person to person.

Q: If one member of a family gets lung fibrosis, does that suggest others will develop it as well?

No, not always.  While some cases (such as familial pulmonary fibrosis) are inherited, the majority are not.  Family history merely increases the risk; it does not guarantee that others will get the condition.

Q: Should a patient with pulmonary fibrosis have their family members screened?

Yes, in families with many cases of pulmonary fibrosis or interstitial lung disease, clinicians may recommend lung function tests, imaging, or genetic counseling.

Q: Will I require the use of oxygen permanently, if I have lung fibrosis?

The requirement of oxygen depends on the severity of the fibrosis.  At the earlier stages when lung involvement is minimal, one may not need oxygen therapy. As the illness worsens, some patients might require oxygen therapy.

Q4: Can exercise make lung fibrosis worse?

No.  Safe, supervised exercise (such as pulmonary rehab) can improve stamina and breathing.  Patients should remain active within their capabilities.

Q5: Is smoking the only cause of lung fibrosis?

No.  While smoking increases the chance of developing lung fibrosis, it can also be caused by environmental exposures, autoimmune illnesses, drugs, or an unknown reason.

Q: If I feel fine, does that mean my fibrosis is gone?

No. lung fibrosis is non reversible disease. Once scar tissue forms in the lungs, it is permanent and cannot be reversed. This is because the normal lung tissue is replaced by stiff, fibrotic tissue that does not heal back into healthy lung.

Q: Is lung fibrosis rare?

It is considered an uncommon disease, but thousands of people worldwide are diagnosed every year. Awareness is growing.

Q: is fibrosis condition curable?

There’s no cure yet, but antifibrotic medicines, oxygen therapy, and rehabilitation can slow progression and improve quality of life.

Q: Can diet or home remedies cure fibrosis?

There is no cure for lung fibrosis, but healthy diet supports overall well-being and medical treatment is essential.

Q: Is surgery possible to remove the fibrosed lung?

Surgery is not a standard treatment, because scarring in the lungs cannot be removed by an operation.

Q: Is the outcome the same for all people with lung fibrosis?

No.  Each person experiences the disease’s progression in a unique way.  Appropriate treatment and early diagnosis can have a significant impact.
